A shocking double murder rocked Kulughutu village under Tiring police limits in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district on Wednesday morning.
A drunk man, identified as Mochaka Alda, allegedly killed two villagers with an iron shovel.
The deceased were Gopinath Sardar and Budheshwar Rana, both residents of Kulughutu. Reports said the incident occurred between 8:30 am and 9 am when the victims passed by Alda’s house. Intoxicated and without provocation, Alda attacked them, striking fatal blows with the shovel.
Villagers rushed to the scene after hearing the commotion. They overpowered Alda, tied him up, and assaulted him severely, fracturing his leg in the process. Police arrived promptly, rescued the accused from the mob, and took him into custody. He was later shifted to a hospital for treatment.
Investigators confirmed that Alda acted under the influence of alcohol and that there was no prior enmity between him and the victims. Police have launched a detailed probe into the case.
The incident has sparked outrage in the area, highlighting concerns about alcohol abuse and rising violence in rural communities. Authorities assured that strict legal action will follow against the accused.
