The National Testing Agency (NTA) cancelled the NEET‑UG 2026 exam held on May 3 after law enforcement agencies flagged irregularities and evidence of a paper leak.
The agency confirmed that a re‑examination will be conducted on fresh dates to be announced soon.
Officials said the decision followed coordination with central agencies and investigative findings that compromised the integrity of the test. The Government of India approved the cancellation and handed the probe to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for a comprehensive inquiry.
NTA assured full cooperation with the CBI and pledged transparency in the re‑exam process. Candidates will not need fresh registration; existing data and exam centres will remain valid. The agency also announced that no additional fees will be charged and previously paid fees will be refunded.
Officials emphasised that the decision was made to protect public trust in national examinations and ensure fairness for lakhs of medical aspirants.
