In a fiery salvo ahead of the Odisha Assembly’s special session, Revenue Minister Suresh Pujari has launched a scathing attack on the Congress and Biju Janata Dal (BJD), accusing them of committing a major political blunder by opposing the Women’s Reservation Bill.

Addressing the media, Pujari said the two parties have not only let down women but also exposed their “anti-women” mindset. “By opposing the Mahila Bill in Parliament, Congress and BJD have made a grave mistake,” he declared. He slammed the BJD for indulging in “drama” without any facts or logic, calling their protests mere noisemaking.

The Minister revealed that a special discussion on the issue will take place in the Assembly on the 30th. “If Congress and BJD have the courage, let them come armed with facts. We are ready to debate and strongly defend the bill,” he challenged.

Pujari pointed out the glaring inconsistency in the opposition’s stand: women already enjoy reservation in panchayats and municipalities, yet the same parties are blocking their rightful place in the Assembly and Parliament. “If they can get reservation at the grassroots level, why not in the higher legislatures? This clearly shows Congress and BJD are anti-women,” he asserted.

The sharp remarks come amid growing political heat as the ruling BJP seeks to corner the opposition on the women-centric legislation.
