In a decisive and swift response, the Odisha Health and Family Welfare Department has ordered a high-level investigation into the tragic death of a newborn at the Subarnapur District Headquarters Hospital.
The infant was the child of Surendra Naik and his wife Jayanti, residents of Patrapali village in neighbouring Boudh district.
The state government acted immediately after the incident came to light, directing the Subarnapur District Collector to conduct a thorough, detailed inquiry and submit a comprehensive report within four days. The probe will establish the exact cause of death, identify any lapses or individuals responsible, and recommend concrete steps to prevent such heartbreaking incidents in the future.
A specialised investigative team comprising senior medical experts has already been formed and has begun its work on the ground. The District Collector has been specifically requested to complete the entire investigation and hand over the report by April 20.
The move reflects the state’s firm commitment to accountability in public healthcare and its resolve to strengthen neonatal care across district hospitals.
