A 17-year-old boy suffered critical injuries after a violent assault during a volleyball game in Aul, Kendrapara district.
The clash occurred at Chandiagadi panchayat under Aul police limits. The victim, Rahul Manik, argued with 15-year-old Mrutyunjay Sahu from Malapatana village while playing volleyball. The dispute turned violent when Mrutyunjay allegedly attacked Rahul with a sharp weapon, striking him near the neck.
Rahul’s friends rushed him to Aul Hospital. As his condition worsened, doctors referred him to Kendrapara District Headquarters Hospital and later to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack. His condition remains critical.
Police detained Mrutyunjay and another youth, Prasant Das, in connection with the assault. Officers confirmed both are under custody, and the investigation continues.
Rahul’s brother, Upendra Manik, said the attack happened around 6 p.m. and left his brother unconscious. His mother, Saraswati Manik, said Rahul had gone to play volleyball and was attacked from behind.
