Shreyas Iyer has been fined ₹24 lakh by the Board of Control for Cricket in India following a repeated slow over-rate offence during an Indian Premier League 2026 match.
The penalty came despite Punjab Kings securing a convincing win against Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.
Penalty Doubled After Second Offence
This marks the second slow over-rate violation for Punjab Kings this season. As per IPL rules:
- Iyer was fined ₹24 lakh (double the previous ₹12 lakh fine)
- Other playing XI members and the Impact Player were fined ₹6 lakh or 25% of match fees (whichever is lower)
The action was taken under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which deals with minimum over-rate violations.
PBKS Register Dominant Win Over CSK
Despite the penalty, Punjab Kings delivered a strong all-round performance.
Chasing a target of 210 runs, PBKS:
- Completed the chase with 8 balls to spare
- Showed dominance in both batting and bowling phases
- Left Chennai Super Kings struggling to defend their total
The win adds momentum to Punjab’s campaign, even as disciplinary concerns emerge.
Explosive Start Sets Up the Chase
Iyer credited the opening pair for laying a solid foundation.
- Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh added 61 runs in just 4.2 overs
- Their aggressive approach gave PBKS early control of the match
Iyer praised their consistency and impact, noting that such starts help stabilise the team’s rhythm during big chases.
