The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow warning for Odisha, predicting rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning in several districts until April 8.
The advisory highlights possible gusty winds reaching 40–50 kmph in some areas.
According to the bulletin, districts under warning include Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Kalahandi, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Kandhamal, Nuapada, Nabarangpur, and Balangir. Residents in these regions have been asked to remain alert and take necessary precautions.
Meteorologists noted that hot and humid conditions will prevail in parts of coastal Odisha, including Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Khurda, Puri, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati. The combination of rising temperatures and moisture inflow is expected to trigger thunderstorms.
The IMD emphasised that people should avoid open areas during lightning activity and secure loose structures against gusty winds. Farmers have been advised to postpone harvesting and outdoor agricultural activities during the warning period.
