The brutal attack at Kolathia under Khandagiri police limits in Bhubaneswar claimed another life today as the injured father of the slain youth died during treatment at AIIMS Bhubaneswar.
The deceased, identified as Himanshu Padhi (54), succumbed to injuries sustained while trying to save his son, Krushna Chandra Padhi alias Buddhi. His daughter, Tapasi Padhi, continues treatment for injuries suffered during the assault.
The incident occurred early Monday when two masked assailants stormed the Padhi residence and attacked Krushna, a 20-year-old undergraduate student from Sorada in Ganjam district. The attackers struck him with an iron rod, leading to his death later that morning.
Himanshu, a local temple priest, and Tapasi intervened to rescue Krushna but were severely injured. Himanshu remained critical until his death today.
Police revealed that the family had lived on a relative’s land near National Highway-16 for nearly two decades. The family had already endured the loss of Krushna’s mother last year.
Investigators suspect the attack stemmed from a triangular love story. Police teams are examining CCTV footage, collecting forensic evidence, and working to identify the masked assailants who fled after the crime.
The Bhubaneswar murder case has shocked residents, with authorities intensifying efforts to apprehend the culprits.
