In a heartfelt tribute to responsible citizenship, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Monday felicitated the highest holding tax payers across the city.

The civic body honoured these contributors for their significant role in driving Bhubaneswar’s development through consistent tax payments.

During the ceremony, honorary plant saplings were presented to the top taxpayers as a symbol of appreciation and environmental commitment. A total of 90 highest holding taxpayers—30 each from the North, South-East, and South-West Zones—were recognised by the respective zonal commissioners.

The initiative not only celebrates tax compliance but also aligns with the goals of Swachh Survekshan by promoting a greener and cleaner Bhubaneswar. BMC officials noted that the timely payment of holding taxes and user fees reflects growing civic consciousness among residents. The collected revenue is utilised for key infrastructural projects, including road construction, drinking water supply, sanitation, education, healthcare, and other essential services that enhance the quality of life in the Smart City.

Among the standout contributors, Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan (SOA) University from the South-West Zone paid over ₹3 crore in holding tax. KIIT from the North Zone contributed approximately ₹1.19 crore, while Crackers India Infrastructure Limited from the South-East Zone paid around ₹43 lakh.

Mayor Sulochana Das and Commissioner Chanchal Rana extended their congratulations to all the honoured taxpayers. “It is our duty and responsibility to pay taxes,” echoed the sentiment of the felicitated citizens, who expressed pride in contributing to the city’s progress.

The Mayor and Commissioner urged citizens to continue supporting Bhubaneswar’s growth by paying their taxes and user fees on time. They emphasised that fulfilling this obligation is both a legal requirement and a matter of civic pride for residents of a progressive Smart City.

The honoured taxpayers expressed satisfaction, stating that their contributions enable direct and indirect participation in the city’s infrastructure development. They called upon fellow citizens to view tax payment as a shared responsibility.
