Malkangiri Police achieved a major breakthrough by dismantling an interstate illegal cyber betting racket and arresting four accused.
Superintendent of Police Vinod Patil confirmed that police seized laptops, passbooks, bank chequebooks, and mobile phones used in online betting operations.
Two accused were arrested from Raipur and two from Koraput. Police placed them under interrogation to uncover further links. The arrests came during Odisha’s statewide campaign Cyber Kavach, which targets online fraud and illegal betting networks.
Investigators examined 142 mule accounts and discovered that intermediaries in Kotpad lured innocent citizens by promising fake NREGA payments. They collected bank accounts, passbooks, and mobile numbers, then couriered them to networks operating from Raipur.
Police identified that the accused managed illegal betting platforms such as 100panel.com, vikash247.com, 11xplay.com, and 99exch.com. They operated through multiple bank accounts and advanced digital payment channels. Daily transactions reportedly reached up to Rs 15 lakh, with overall dealings crossing Rs 1 crore.
The racket also used several WhatsApp groups to coordinate betting activities across states. During the operation, police seized digital devices and financial documents. Authorities continue deeper investigations to expose the wider network and arrest more associates.
Police appealed to citizens not to share bank accounts or identity documents with unknown individuals. They warned that such misuse could involve people in serious cybercrime cases.
