Iran Says It Will Not Strike Neighbours Unless Attacked, Signals Move to Ease Regional Tensions

Iran has announced that it will suspend missile strikes and military attacks on neighbouring countries unless an attack against the country originates from their territory, signalling a possible step toward reducing regional tensions.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said the decision was approved by the country’s interim leadership council. The move comes as Tehran seeks to reassure neighbouring states following rising tensions triggered by recent military confrontations in the Middle East.

Pezeshkian also expressed regret over the impact of the conflict on nearby countries and emphasised that Iran does not intend to target them unless directly provoked.

Iran Apologises to Regional Neighbours

Speaking in a televised address, Pezeshkian said Iran would avoid launching attacks against neighbouring nations unless hostile actions against Iran originate from their territory.

The statement reflects an effort by Iranian leadership to reduce tensions across the Gulf region while maintaining the country’s defensive stance.

At the same time, the Iranian president stressed that the country would not surrender to pressure from Israel or the United States.

“The enemies must take their wish for the surrender of the Iranian people to their graves,” Pezeshkian said during the broadcast.

Conflict Continues Across the Gulf Region

Despite the diplomatic signal, the broader conflict in the Middle East continues to affect several countries in the Gulf.

Cities across the region, including Dubai and Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates, have reported missile alerts, drone interceptions and air-raid sirens in recent days. The security measures were triggered by ongoing retaliatory actions following joint military strikes targeting Iran.

Authorities in Dubai also temporarily suspended operations at Dubai International Airport (DXB) after a reported security incident. Officials said the suspension was implemented as a precaution to ensure the safety of passengers and airport staff.

Regional Impact and Rising Casualties

The conflict has disrupted air travel across the Gulf region, forcing airlines to cancel or reroute thousands of flights due to restricted airspace.

Missile and drone strikes have reportedly targeted military facilities and bases across several countries, including Qatar, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates.

According to international reports, the fighting has resulted in significant casualties. More than 1,200 people have reportedly been killed in Iran, while hundreds of others have died in Lebanon and Israel. Several United States military personnel have also been reported among the casualties.

Global Concerns Over Escalation

The ongoing confrontation has raised concerns among global leaders and analysts about the risk of a wider regional conflict. Governments across the world are closely monitoring developments as diplomatic efforts continue to prevent further escalation.

Iran’s latest statement regarding attacks on neighbouring countries may represent an early attempt to limit the spread of the conflict while maintaining its strategic position in the region.
