The India national cricket team is reportedly relying on more than just strategy and form as it prepares for the final of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 against the New Zealand national cricket team in Ahmedabad.
According to reports, the team has changed its hotel in the city ahead of the crucial clash, hoping the move might bring better luck at a venue that has witnessed some painful defeats in recent years.
Ahmedabad Memories Still Fresh
The final will be played at the massive Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, a venue that holds mixed memories for Indian cricket fans.
In 2023, India suffered a heartbreaking loss to Australia national cricket team in the final of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 at the same venue despite entering the match as strong favourites.
More recently, during the current tournament, India endured a heavy defeat against the South Africa national cricket team in the Super 8 stage while chasing a target of 188, collapsing for just 111 runs.
These results are believed to have influenced the decision to switch hotels ahead of the final.
Lunar Eclipse Also Delayed Training
Superstitious practices reportedly played a role earlier in the tournament as well. Before the semifinal against the England national cricket team, the Indian team delayed its training session at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai by around 45 minutes due to a lunar eclipse on March 3.
In many parts of India, traditional beliefs discourage beginning important activities during an eclipse period.
Interestingly, India went on to win the semifinal in a thrilling encounter.
Bumrah’s Heroics Seal Semifinal Victory
India successfully defended a challenging total against England, thanks largely to a brilliant late spell from Jasprit Bumrah.
The star pacer delivered two exceptional final overs that restricted England’s chase and secured a narrow victory for India, booking their place in the tournament final.
Gambhir Attends Wedding in Mumbai
Ahead of the semifinal, India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir briefly stepped away to attend the wedding celebrations of Sachin Tendulkar’s son Arjun Tendulkar in Mumbai.
Several cricketers associated with the Mumbai Indians franchise—including Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, and Hardik Pandya—were also reported to have attended the event.
All Eyes on the Final
With the stage set in Ahmedabad, India will now aim to overcome past disappointments and lift the trophy when they face New Zealand in the highly anticipated T20 World Cup final.
Cricket fans across the country will be hoping that preparation, performance, and perhaps a bit of luck come together for Team India on the big day.
