A full emergency was declared on Tuesday morning after a SpiceJet flight operating from Delhi to Leh reported an engine-related technical issue shortly after takeoff.
The aircraft returned safely to Indira Gandhi International Airport, officials confirmed.
The flight, SG121, was en route from Delhi to Leh when it experienced what officials described as an “Engine Number 2 failure.” The aircraft, a Boeing 737, was carrying approximately 150 passengers.
Emergency Declared as Precautionary Measure
According to sources, a full emergency was declared at around 6:30 am as a precautionary step. The aircraft landed safely in Delhi at approximately 6:45 am. All passengers were disembarked in a routine manner, and no injuries were reported.
A SpiceJet spokesperson stated that the flight returned to Delhi after experiencing a technical issue. “The aircraft landed safely in Delhi, and passengers were disembarked normally. There was no fire warning in the cockpit,” the spokesperson said.
Recent Weather-Related Diversion
In a separate incident on Sunday, an IndiGo flight from Ahmedabad to Dibrugarh was diverted to Imphal due to a severe dust storm that significantly reduced visibility at the destination airport. Officials stated that the crew rerouted the aircraft as a safety precaution.
