Man Arrested for Attempted Murder of Wife in Deogarh

Police arrested a man in Rangamatia village under Kundheigola police station, Deogarh district, for attempting to kill his wife by strangulation.


The accused, identified as 33-year-old Tikeswar Matiari, faced charges after his mother lodged a complaint against him.

According to reports, Tikeswar frequently abused his wife, Nilima Bag,h with obscene language and physical assault. On Sunday morning, he attacked her again and tried to strangle her. His mother, Maharagi Matiari, intervened and questioned him about the torture. Enraged, Tikeswar verbally abused and assaulted his mother as well.

Maharagi then filed a complaint atthe  Kundheigola police station. Police registered a case and arrested Tikeswar under IPC Sections 109, 115(2), 296, and 85. Authorities produced him in court, where his bail plea was rejected. He was sent to judicial custody.

The case highlights ongoing concerns about domestic violence and family disputes in rural Odisha. Police confirmed that further investigation is underway to ensure justice for the victim.
