In a bid to combat cancer in underserved areas, Vedanta Aluminium, India’s leading aluminium producer, organised a two-day awareness campaign around its Lanjigarh alumina refinery.
The drive, held on February 9, 2026, reached over 500 residents, including frontline health workers and students, emphasising prevention, early detection, and treatment options.
The program kicked off at the Lanjigarh Block Office with sessions for Anganwadi Workers (AWWs) and ASHA workers, equipping them with tools to identify early signs of cancer. Community outreach extended to Kankeri village, where locals interacted directly with doctors to demystify detection, treatment, and recovery processes.
Educational institutions like SSD School and Banipanga Girls’ High School hosted tailored sessions for students, aiming to reduce stigma and turn youth into health advocates.
Pranab Kumar Bhattacharyya, CEO of Vedanta Alumina Business, stated, “Access to quality healthcare drives socio-economic progress. We’re committed to enhancing community well-being in Kalahandi through targeted cancer care interventions.”
Vedanta’s efforts align with its broader healthcare commitments, including advanced services at its Lanjigarh hospital and BMC facility in Chhattisgarh.
By bridging medical expertise with rural outreach, the initiative fosters long-term health improvements in Odisha’s tribal regions, underscoring the company’s role in holistic development.
