Rajasthan Police today took custody of notorious dacoit Subodh Singh from Sambalpur District Jail on remand in connection with a major gold robbery case in Udaipur.
Singh, who was lodged in Sambalpur’s main jail, was produced before the court and then handed over to the Rajasthan Police. A team of armed police and escort personnel from Rajasthan had reached Sambalpur earlier to complete the formalities.
According to information, Singh is accused of involvement in the 25 kg gold dacoity in Udaipur, for which the Rajasthan Police sought his remand. Two days ago, the team arrived in Sambalpur to secure custody.
Singh’s criminal record is extensive. On January 3, 2025, he masterminded the sensational 28 kg gold loot from Manappuram Gold Finance at Budharaja in Sambalpur, where armed robbers stormed the branch and fled with the gold.
Police sources confirmed that Subodh Singh has 28 criminal cases registered across Odisha, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Rajasthan, and Maharashtra. Of these, at least 12 cases involve gold loots, making him one of the most wanted criminals in recent years.
Earlier, Sambalpur Police had brought Singh from Behura Jail in West Bengal for investigation into the Budharaja gold loot case.
