Odisha Vigilance intercepted Dr Sanatana Behera, Associate Professor in the Department of Hepatology at SCB Medical College and Hospital, while he was carrying a suspected ill-got cash amounting to Rs 2.63 lakh.
Acting on credible information about illegal collections from bidders supplying medical instruments to the hepatology department, a vigilance team stopped Dr Behera near Kathagolasahi–Medical Road. He was riding his Hero Honda Activa scooter (Regn No. OD‑05‑BS‑7309) and heading toward his government quarters when officials found the cash in his possession.
As Dr Behera failed to provide a satisfactory explanation, the money was seized. Vigilance sources confirmed that searches are being conducted at three locations linked to him to examine disproportionate assets. He is currently being questioned to ascertain the source of the funds.
Following the interception, Cuttack Vigilance PS registered Case No. 4/2026 under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 2018. Officials stated that further investigation will determine the extent of irregularities and whether more individuals are involved.
