A truck carrying timber overturned at Sukri Ghat in Baipariguda block today, leaving the driver with minor injuries.
The vehicle, bearing registration number AP 27 TJ 2729, was transporting timber from Jajpur to Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh. Around noon, the truck’s brakes failed while descending Sukri Ghat. The driver lost control, and the heavy vehicle overturned on the sharp curve.
The accident could have been fatal, but the driver managed to escape with only slight injuries. Local witnesses rushed to help, and police from Baipariguda arrived quickly to begin the investigation.
The overturned truck blocked part of National Highway 326, causing a temporary disruption to traffic. Authorities worked to clear the road and ensure safe passage for other vehicles.
This incident highlights the recurring issue of brake failures in overloaded trucks on hilly roads. Sukri Ghat has witnessed several similar accidents in recent years, raising concerns about vehicle safety and road conditions.
Police have started inquiries into the cause of the brake failure and the condition of the truck. Officials emphasised the need for strict monitoring of heavy vehicles carrying timber and other loads through the ghat section.
