In a move that left millions of fans stunned, Arijit Singh, one of India’s most beloved and influential voices, has announced his retirement from playback singing. The singer shared the news on January 27 through a heartfelt Instagram post, stating that he will no longer accept new assignments as a playback vocalist.

While Arijit Singh did not reveal the reason behind his decision, his announcement sparked an outpouring of emotion from fans and members of the music and film industry alike.

Arijit Singh’s Announcement

In his post, the singer expressed gratitude for the love he has received over the years.

“Hello. Happy New Year to all. I want to thank you all for giving me so much love all these years as listeners. I am happy to announce that I am not going to take any new assignments as a playback vocalist from now on. I am calling it quits. It was a wonderful journey.”

Music Industry Reacts

Several prominent voices from the industry responded with messages of admiration, respect, and disbelief.

Veteran singer Kumar Sanu wrote that Arijit’s voice and talent are “one in a million,” adding that he admired the courage it took to make such a decision at a relatively young age.

Rapper Badshah summed up his feelings succinctly, calling Arijit Singh “one in a century.”

Composer Amaal Mallik shared an emotional message, saying he was struggling to process the news but fully respected Arijit’s decision, adding that he would always remain a fan.

Singer Armaan Malik expressed gratitude for Arijit’s contribution to music, while B Praak simply wrote, “Fan for life.”

Actor Richa Chadha, casting director Mukesh Chhabra, and singer-rapper Raja Kumari also reacted with emotional messages and emojis, reflecting the widespread impact of the announcement.

A Defining Voice of a Generation

Over the past decade, Arijit Singh has become synonymous with modern Hindi film music. Known for his emotional depth and versatility, he has been the preferred playback singer for leading actors including Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Ranbir Kapoor, and Ranveer Singh.

Some of his most iconic songs include “Tum Hi Ho,” “Channa Mereya,” “Raabta,” “Laal Ishq,” “Kabhi Jo Baadal Barse,” and “Aaj Phir.” His music has shaped an era of Bollywood soundtracks and continues to resonate with listeners across generations.

While his future musical plans remain undisclosed, Arijit Singh’s legacy as one of the most impactful voices in Indian cinema is firmly etched in history.
