As part of the run-up to the State-level Fishery & Animal Resources Conclave Odisha 2026, a public awareness walkathon was organised in Bhubaneswar early Wednesday morning to promote sustainable fisheries and animal husbandry practices.

The walkathon commenced at 6:30 am and was flagged off by Minister for Fisheries and Animal Resources Development, Gokulananda Mallik. The awareness march began at Kalinga Stadium and concluded at Janata Maidan, drawing enthusiastic participation from students and stakeholders.

Students from various colleges took part in the walkathon, carrying placards and sharing messages aimed at creating public awareness about the importance of fish farming, livestock development, and animal welfare. The initiative highlighted the role of fisheries and animal resources in strengthening livelihoods and ensuring nutritional security.

Several public representatives and senior officials were present at the event, including Digapahandi MLA Siddhanta Mahapatra, Korei MLA Akash Das Nayak, Principal Secretary of the Department Suresh Kumar Vashishth, Director of Fisheries Mohammad Saddik Alam, and Director of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services Bijay Amrita Kulange, along with other departmental officers.

The walkathon marked the beginning of a series of outreach activities planned ahead of the Fishery & Animal Resources Conclave Odisha 2026, which aims to encourage innovation, sustainability, and public participation in the sector.
