Police in Sinapali block of Nuapada district have rescued ten migrant workers, including one minor, and arrested a labour contractor accused of illegally transporting them to another state. A four-wheeler vehicle used for the trafficking was also seized, police said on Friday.

The information was shared during a press briefing at Sinapali Police Station by Khariar SDPO Upendra Pradhan.

Tip-Off Leads to Police Action

According to police, they received specific intelligence that migrant workers were being transported through the Godal Chhak–Hathibandha route in a four-wheeler Toyota Artica (registration number OD-26-G-6332).

Acting on the input, a police team led by Sinapali Inspector-in-Charge Durgamadhab Bag conducted a raid and intercepted the vehicle.

Contractor Arrested, Workers Rescued

During the operation, police rescued all ten workers and detained the contractor identified as Mirayala Ramulu (60), a resident of Durga Nagar under Malkajgiri Police Station in Medchal–Malkajgiri district of Telangana.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the workers were being transported for inter-state labour work without proper authorization.

Case Registered, Accused Sent to Court

Police registered a case at Sinapali Police Station (Case No. 6/26) under relevant sections of law. The accused was later produced before the court, while the rescued workers were shifted to a safe location for further assistance and verification.

Officials Present

Several police officers and personnel from Sinapali Police Station participated in the operation, officials said.

Police have reiterated their commitment to preventing illegal labour trafficking and urged citizens to report suspicious movements involving migrant workers.
