In a significant setback to the banned CPI (Maoist) organisation, four underground cadres of Party Member (PM) rank surrendered before Kandhamal Police, renouncing violence and pledging to join the mainstream of society.
The cadres laid down arms, ammunition, explosives, and Maoist literature during the surrender. They formally severed all links with extremist activities and expressed faith in the democratic process. Police officials described the surrender as a major blow to Maoist leadership, morale, and operational strength in the region.
Details of Surrendered Cadres
- Ganga Kunjami alias Jiten (24), KKBN Division, involved in multiple encounters across Sukma, Baliguda, and Tumudibandha.
- Muchaki Mase alias Sumitra (23), KKBN Division, linked to several violent incidents between 2020 and 2025.
- Chomali Kunjam alias Santila (21), KKBN Division, active in Bijapur and Kandhamal operations.
- Bandi Madvi alias Malati (22), KKBN Division, associated with encounters in Dantewada and Kandhamal.
Arms and Ammunition Surrendered
The surrendered items included:
- 1 SLR rifle, 2 .303 rifles, 1 12-bore gun
- 42 rounds of ammunition
- 2 wireless sets, 5 booby traps, codex wire, explosives
- Maoist uniforms, literature, and daily-use items
Rehabilitation Benefits
Under Odisha’s Surrender-cum-Rehabilitation Policy, the cadres will receive:
- A total reward amount of Rs 10.36 lakh
- Interim relief of Rs 25,000 each
- Housing under Antyodaya Gruha Yojana
- Marriage incentive of Rs 25,000
- Free enrollment in skill development programmes with a stipend of Rs 10,000 per month for up to 36 months
- Health cards and subsidised rations under PMGKAY and Antyodaya Anna Yojana
Police assured that all entitled benefits will be provided promptly to help the surrendered cadres rebuild their lives with dignity and security.
