India has expressed deep concern over the recent US operation that captured Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, calling for a peaceful resolution and reaffirming its support for the safety of the Venezuelan people.
In a statement on Sunday, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said it is closely monitoring the evolving situation in Venezuela. The MEA emphasized:
“India reaffirms its support to the well-being and safety of the people of Venezuela. We call upon all concerned to address issues peacefully through dialogue, ensuring peace and stability in the region.”
The Embassy of India in Caracas is actively in contact with the Indian community in Venezuela and will continue to provide assistance as needed.
The US administration, led by President Donald Trump, carried out a military operation in Caracas and other areas, citing a crackdown on “narco-terrorism.” Following the operation, Maduro was flown out of Venezuela, with Trump stating that the US would manage the country temporarily until a transition of power occurs.
Amid these developments, the MEA issued a travel advisory for Indian nationals on Saturday:
