The process of the South-West monsoon withdrawing from Odisha has officially begun.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the monsoon has started retreating from parts of western and northwestern Odisha, with Sundargarh and Bargarh districts already experiencing a complete withdrawal.
Regional Meteorological Centre expert Sanjeev Dwivedi noted that favourable conditions—including a shift in wind patterns and a significant drop in atmospheric moisture—have created an ideal environment for the monsoon’s departure. The entire state is very likely to experience a complete withdrawal of the monsoon within the next 3 to 4 days.
What to Expect Next?
-
Drop in Rainfall: Rainfall activity will decrease substantially across the state.
-
Dry Weather: The weather is expected to remain largely dry and pleasant in the coming days.
-
Relief from Humidity: As humidity levels drop, the uncomfortable sultry weather (guluguli) will subside.
-
Arrival of Winter: The atmospheric transition marks the early groundwork for the upcoming winter season.
Currently, with no major weather systems or low-pressure areas active over the region, the Meteorological Centre has not issued any weather warnings for the state over the next few days.
