The Odisha government extends the Pollution Under Control Certificate (PUCC) deadline until March, giving vehicle owners more time to comply with emission norms.

Transport Minister Bibhuti Jena announced the decision, stressing the importance of reducing vehicular pollution across the state. He explained that the extension aims to ease the burden on citizens who face long queues at testing centres. The government wants to ensure that every vehicle owner has a fair chance to obtain the certificate without unnecessary penalties.

The extension comes after widespread demand from motorists who struggled to renew their PUCC due to heavy rush and technical delays. Many vehicle owners expressed concern about fines and fuel restrictions linked to expired certificates. The government responded by granting additional time, reinforcing its commitment to both environmental safety and public convenience.

Officials confirmed that enforcement will continue after the new deadline. Vehicle owners must secure valid PUCCs to avoid fines and restrictions on fuel purchase. The Transport Department also plans to increase testing facilities in major cities to handle the growing demand.

Bibhuti Jena urged citizens to act responsibly and not wait until the last moment. He emphasised that controlling pollution remains a collective responsibility. The government expects the extension to encourage compliance and reduce vehicular emissions across Odisha.
