Rabindra Kumar Aich, former Secretary of Gadapokhari Service Co-operative Society, Khaira Branch under BBCC Bank Ltd., Balasore, has been convicted in a vigilance corruption case.
The Special Judge, Vigilance, Balasore, sentenced Aich to three years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 50,000. The conviction relates to misappropriation of society funds amounting to Rs 7.48 lakh during the financial years 1997–98 to 2000–01. Investigators found that Aich manipulated official records of the society to commit the fraud.
Odisha Vigilance had charge-sheeted him under Section 13(2) read with 13(1)(c)(d) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, along with Sections 409, 468, 471, and 477-A of the IPC.
Following the conviction, Odisha Vigilance announced that it will move the competent authority to stop Aich’s pension benefits.
