Karlamunda police seized 404 pouches of toxic country liquor during a raid in Dipupada village under Risida outpost in Kalahandi district.
Acting on local information, the police team intercepted the illegal consignment and registered Case No. 312.
The operation was led by Risida outpost officer Manua Bidika, who confirmed that the liquor was being smuggled from outside the district. The accused, identified as Anup Kaonr of Porakela village, fled the scene and remains absconding.
Villagers assisted the police in tracking the illegal activity, highlighting community involvement in curbing the illicit liquor trade. The raid prevented the circulation of harmful liquor that posed serious health risks.
The firepower of the police team included constable Sunil Kumar Bag and home guard Chakamana Bhoi, among others. Their swift action ensured the seizure of the toxic liquor before it could reach consumers.
Authorities emphasised that strict measures will continue against illegal liquor operations in the region. The absconding accused is being pursued, and the police assured that efforts are underway to bring him to justice.
