Police arrested a college watchman in Puri district after he misbehaved with a minor student and threatened to kill her.
The incident took place at Kanas College, where the 16-year-old girl studies in the +2 Arts stream.
According to reports, the accused, Biju alias Dhruba Charan Mahapatra of Kanasa village, worked as a night guard at the college. He intercepted the girl on the road, attempted to misbehave with her, and threatened to kill her if she resisted. He also pressured her to accompany him outside.
When the student refused, the accused pulled her shirt and tried to drag her. Shocked, the girl rushed home and narrated the incident to her mother. Subsequently, her mother lodged a written complaint at the Kanas police station.
Acting swiftly on the complaint, Inspector Prasanna Kumar Nayak assigned the investigation to SI Debi Prasad Lenka. Police teams raided multiple locations and arrested the accused on Saturday morning. They later produced him in court.
Meanwhile, police registered Case No. 295/2025 under Sections 126(2), 75, 79, and 351(2) of the Indian Penal Code, along with Section 12 of the POCSO Act. The investigation remains in progress.
