Nuapada district’s Sinapali region has witnessed a sharp rise in illegal labour trafficking.
Local “dadan sardars” lure workers with advance payments and then send them to brick kilns for exploitative work.
Meanwhile, police have intensified day-and-night patrolling to curb the menace. However, trafficking networks continue to operate, sparking widespread concern in the area.
On Friday night, Sinapali police rescued 10 workers near Godal Chhak. The rescued labourers belonged to the Godal locality. During the operation, police intercepted a small vehicle that was being used to transport the workers illegally.
At the same time, officers caught the middleman, identified as Balaram Nial, red-handed while he attempted to traffic the workers. Sinapali police station officer-in-charge Durgamadhab Bag led the operation.
Later, police confirmed that the rescued workers had been safely sent back to their homes. In addition, they produced the arrested middleman in court after filing formal charges.
Overall, the incident highlights both the persistence of trafficking networks and the determination of Sinapali police to dismantle them.
