Odisha leaders gathered at the Legislative Assembly premises on Rama Devi’s birth anniversary and honoured her enduring legacy as a freedom fighter, social reformer, and champion of women’s liberation.
Rama Devi, also known as Ramadevi Choudhury (3 December 1899 – 22 July 1985), played a distinguished role in India’s independence movement. She dedicated her life to advancing social justice and empowering women in Odisha. Moreover, she inspired countless generations with her courage and commitment.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Speaker Surama Padhy, Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida, Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling, BJD leader Prasanna Acharya, and other dignitaries offered floral tributes at the statue of Maa Ramadevi. Consequently, the solemn ceremony reflected the state’s collective respect for her contributions to the freedom struggle and her tireless efforts in advancing women’s empowerment.
During the independence movement, Rama Devi mobilised women and encouraged them to participate actively. As a result, she became a symbol of resilience and social justice in Odisha and beyond. Her life’s work continues to resonate strongly in contemporary society.
