A tragic road accident claimed the lives of three youths in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district early Friday. The hit‑and‑run occurred around 2 AM near Kalyani Gas Agency in Govindpur along NH‑55.
According to preliminary reports, the trio was riding a scooty when an unidentified vehicle struck them and ran over the two‑wheeler. The impact killed all three on the spot. The driver fled immediately after the crash, leaving the victims behind.
Investigators revealed that the scooty carried a registration number from Mahanaga, suggesting the deceased were possibly from that area. Officials estimated their ages between 25 and 30 years.
Authorities shifted the bodies to the Dhenkanal District Headquarters Hospital for autopsy. Police teams are working to confirm the identities of the victims and contact their families. Meanwhile, investigators are scanning CCTV footage from the vicinity to trace the vehicle and its driver.
The incident sparked outrage among locals, who demanded stricter enforcement of road safety rules and justice for the bereaved families. A pall of gloom spread across the community as news of the accident circulated.
