A wedding celebration in Bolangir turned tragic on Tuesday night when the groom’s father lost his life after being struck by a procession vehicle.

The incident occurred in Mandal village under Belpada block, leaving the community in shock.

According to reports, the groom’s father, Chaitanya Bagh of Ambapali village in Loisingha block, was part of his son Dukhisyam’s wedding procession heading towards Patnagarh. The baraat began joyfully after refreshments, but the happiness quickly turned into grief.

Witnesses said the driver’s reckless handling of the vehicle caused it to lunge forward, hitting Chaitanya, who was walking ahead of the groom’s car. He died instantly at the spot. In the same accident, the bride’s cousin also sustained injuries.

Police from Patnagarh reached the scene promptly. They seized the body and shifted the injured to a nearby hospital for treatment. Authorities also confiscated the vehicle involved in the accident.

The sudden death of Chaitanya Bagh during his son’s wedding procession stunned relatives and villagers alike. What began as a joyous occasion ended in mourning, with the family returning home carrying the body instead of celebrating the marriage.

The incident highlights the dangers of careless driving during festive processions, where large crowds and vehicles often move together.
