The Rourkela-Howrah Vande Bharat Express (Train No. 20872) faced a disturbing incident on Sunday when a stone shattered a window near seat number 23 in coach C-13.

The train had just departed Rourkela station and was heading toward Howrah when the attack occurred.

A passenger immediately alerted the train authorities, who quickly informed the Railway Protection Force (RPF) at Tatanagar station. RPF Assistant Sub-Inspector R. Rai documented the incident and reported it to the railway administration. Officials confirmed that the perpetrator remains unidentified, and an investigation has begun to trace those responsible.

The incident raises concerns about passenger safety on India’s premium trains. Vande Bharat Express, known for speed and modern amenities, has become a symbol of advanced rail travel. However, repeated stone-pelting episodes across different routes highlight the need for stronger vigilance and community awareness.

Railway authorities emphasise that such acts not only endanger lives but also damage national property. The administration has assured passengers that security measures will be reinforced along vulnerable stretches. Officials are exploring surveillance options and coordination with local police to prevent similar attacks.

Passengers expressed relief that no injuries occurred during the incident. Still, the shattered window disrupted the journey and reminded travellers of the risks posed by reckless behaviour. The Rourkela-Howrah Vande Bharat Express continues to operate, but the railway administration urges citizens to treat public transport with responsibility and respect.
