Sardar Jagar Singh, a distinguished officer of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) from the Odisha cadre, 1976 batch, passed away yesterday at the age of 75. He had been briefly ill and was hospitalised for a few days before his demise.

Born on April 5, 1950, Sardar Jagar Singh was a highly respected figure in the bureaucracy, renowned for his long and dedicated service to the state of Odisha. “He was a highly respected member of the bureaucracy, known for his long and dedicated service to the state,” said Shri Jayant Kumar Dev, his batch mate and close friend. He is survived by his wife and son.

A post-graduate from Panjab University, Chandigarh, Mr. Singh embarked on his illustrious career in 1976 and served in various key capacities until his retirement in 2010. His tenure was marked by unwavering integrity, professionalism, and a deep commitment to public welfare.

Even after retirement, Mr. Singh continued to contribute as an active and thoughtful voice on public issues, frequently sharing his insights and expertise on matters of governance and social importance. His passing represents a significant loss to the bureaucratic fraternity and the state of Odisha, where his contributions left an indelible mark.

The news of his demise has elicited widespread condolences from former colleagues, political leaders, and members of civil society, all of whom remember his invaluable role in the administration of the state.

Family sources have confirmed that his last rites will be conducted at his birthplace in Punjab.
