Police exposed a major illegal cattle trafficking operation late Tuesday night, arresting three accused while eleven others fled the scene.

According to reports, traffickers attempted to move more than 190 cattle through State Highway-10 near Kutra bus stand, transporting them from Bamra block’s Jharia Bahal area towards Khatakur Bahal. The cattle were being smuggled to Jharkhand using trucks, vans, and pickup containers.

Acting on a tip-off, ASI Asu Mahanti led an eight-member police team in a high-risk operation. The officers worked tirelessly through the night, intercepting the traffickers and successfully capturing three of them. Locals praised Mahanti’s courage and dedication, noting that he risked his life to stop the illegal trade.

Police confirmed that eleven accused escaped during the raid. Veterinary doctors examined the rescued cattle to ensure their health and safety. Authorities registered a case at the Kutra police station and launched further investigation to trace the absconding traffickers.

Officials stated that cattle smuggling in the Kutra block has increased over the years due to weak enforcement against local traders. However, under the instructions of the Sundargarh SP, special teams have now been formed across all police stations to curb the menace.

The crackdown highlights the growing vigilance of Sundargarh police against organised cattle trafficking networks. Investigators assured that efforts will continue until all the accused are brought to justice.
