In a significant blow to the illegal narcotics trade, the Special Crime Unit of the Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Commissionerate seized 400 grams of brown sugar and arrested one suspect during a targeted operation near Lingaraj Road Railway Station.

The raid, conducted on November 16, 2025, at 6:00 PM, underscores the police’s ongoing efforts to curb drug-related activities in the region.

The operation was based on reliable intelligence inputs, leading to strategic surveillance and the interception of suspects involved in brown sugar transactions. Authorities apprehended Sk Akbar, 29, son of the late Sk Saiful, from Arada Bazar (Golapola) under Sahadevkhunta Police Station in Balasore district. Along with the 400 grams of brown sugar, police recovered one mobile phone and Rs 620 in cash from the accused.

The principal suspect, Sk Sadik Mohammad, 30, son of Sk Salauddin from the same locality, remains at large and is the focus of ongoing investigations. The case, registered as Special Crime Unit PS Case No. 11 dated November 16, 2025, under Sections 21(c) and 29 of the NDPS Act, aims to unravel the broader supply chain, financial networks, and any associated criminal links.

The arrested individual is set to be produced before the court, with interrogations continuing to gather more details about the operation and its connections. This seizure represents a major step in dismantling illegal brown sugar networks in Bhubaneswar, highlighting the Commissionerate’s commitment to community safety and justice.

The police have appealed to the public to report any suspicious activities related to narcotics. Informants can contact the Special Crime Unit at 0674-2916383 between 10 AM and 8 PM, with assurances of complete confidentiality for all tips.
