India captain Shubman Gill has returned to the summit of the ICC Men’s ODI batting rankings, while teenage opener Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has registered one of the biggest jumps in recent T20I rankings after an impressive series against Zimbabwe.
The latest ICC rankings, released on Wednesday, saw Gill reclaim the No.1 ODI batter’s position following an outstanding series against England. The Indian skipper scored 80 (retired hurt), 31 and 77 during the three-match ODI series, although India eventually lost the contest 2-1.
Gill replaced New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell at the top after the Kiwi batter missed the final ODI against the West Indies due to a low-grade hip injury.
According to the ICC, Gill has now begun his third stint as the world’s No.1 ODI batter, underlining his consistency in the 50-over format.
Meanwhile, 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi enjoyed a remarkable rise in the ICC Men’s T20I batting rankings after his Player of the Series performance against Zimbabwe. The young batter climbed 230 places to reach 48th position, making his debut in the T20I top 50.
Sooryavanshi scored 151 runs in three innings, including a blistering 19-ball half-century in the opening match and an attacking 81 off 49 balls in the third game, playing a key role in India’s series victory.
India also witnessed gains elsewhere in the T20I batting rankings. Captain Shreyas Iyer moved up seven places to 24th, while vice-captain Tilak Varma climbed two spots to sixth in the latest standings.
Among bowlers, spinner Ravi Bishnoi made significant progress after consistent performances in Zimbabwe, jumping 31 places to 41st. Zimbabwe pacer Blessing Muzarabani also improved his ranking, rising ten places to 26th.
The ICC rankings also reflected performances from the recently concluded first Test between the West Indies and Pakistan. Pakistan captain Babar Azam climbed four places to 15th after an unbeaten 58 in the second innings, while Shan Masood advanced eight spots to 36th following his century in the first innings.
West Indies batter Shai Hope moved up to 39th after scoring 92, and teammate Kavem Hodge climbed seven places to 60th following his contributions in the Trinidad Test, where the hosts secured a 90-run victory over Pakistan.
Gill’s return to the top of the ODI rankings and Sooryavanshi’s rapid rise highlight India’s growing strength across formats, with experienced stars and emerging talent continuing to make a strong impact on the international stage.
