Maoist Surrender in Telangana

The Maoist Telangana Area Committee has announced a six-month ceasefire, appealing to the government to reciprocate and support peaceful conditions across the state.

In a press release, spokesperson Jagan stated that the decision follows widespread public movements in April, May, and June aimed at maintaining peace. Earlier, Maoist leader Sonu had requested the government to declare a ceasefire, but authorities continued operations, leading to multiple surrenders by members of the group.

The committee emphasized that during the previous ceasefire period, they implemented planned strategies to ensure a peaceful environment. They now seek to extend this effort for another six months, respecting public sentiment and trust.

Jagan accused the central BJP government of disrupting peace in Telangana and called on all political parties, social organizations, students, intellectuals, and democratic voices to oppose such actions. He urged collective resistance against attempts to destabilize the region.

Despite the appeal, reports suggest that the government and police administration are unlikely to accept the ceasefire proposal. Security operations are expected to continue.

The Maoist group reiterated its commitment to maintaining peace from its side and requested the government to do the same. The statement reflects a renewed push for dialogue and stability in conflict-affected areas.
