Tech leaders Sundar Pichai and Satya Nadella joined millions across the globe in celebrating the Indian Women’s Cricket Team’s historic 2025 ICC Women’s World Cup victory, describing it as a defining moment for Indian sport.

The Women in Blue clinched their maiden World Cup title on Sunday, defeating South Africa by 52 runs at the Dr DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. The win ended decades of near misses and established India among the elite in women’s cricket, alongside Australia, England, and New Zealand.

Tech Titans Applaud India’s Champions

Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google, praised Team India’s performance, drawing parallels with the country’s landmark men’s World Cup wins in 1983 and 2011.

“That was a nail-biting women’s world cup cricket final — memories of 1983 and 2011 indeed. Congrats to Team India! I’m sure this will inspire a whole generation. Great tournament from South Africa too!” he posted on X (formerly Twitter).

Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft, also took to social media to applaud the achievement, calling it a moment of legends being born.

“Women in Blue = World Champions! Respect to South Africa for making their first-ever final. A truly historic day for women’s cricket — new chapters written, barriers broken, legends born,” Nadella wrote.

Both executives, born in India and known cricket enthusiasts, have long expressed pride in the rise of Indian cricket on the global stage.

India’s Long-Awaited Triumph

Led by Harmanpreet Kaur, India’s women overcame years of heartbreak in previous finals — including 2005 and 2017 — to finally lift the World Cup trophy. Their win was powered by Shafali Verma’s 87-run knock and Deepti Sharma’s five-wicket haul, earning praise from fans, former cricketers, and leaders across sectors.

Following the victory, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced a ₹51 crore cash reward for the team, selectors, and support staff in recognition of their historic feat.
