A rescue helicopter crash in Nepal’s Everest region left the pilot with minor injuries but no fatalities.

The incident occurred near Lobuche Mountain in Khumbu on October 29, 2025.

An Altitude Air helicopter, piloted solo by Captain Vivek Khadka, crash-landed amid heavy snowfall during a rescue mission from Lukla. The aircraft was en route to assist stranded tourists in the high-altitude Khumbu region. Despite the harsh conditions, the pilot escaped with minor injuries and was rescued swiftly.

Local authorities confirmed no passengers were on board. The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal has launched an investigation into the crash. Officials are examining possible causes, including mechanical failure and adverse weather.

High-altitude aviation in the Everest region remains risky due to thin air, poor visibility, and unpredictable weather. These factors contribute to frequent aviation incidents in Nepal, according to official data.

The helicopter crash in Khumbu highlights the challenges faced by rescue operations in mountainous terrain. The Lobuche helipad, located near Mt. Everest, is a critical point for emergency missions. The pilot’s survival underscores the importance of rapid response and preparedness in such missions.

Meanwhile, in a separate aviation update, Air India CEO Campbell Wilson addressed the interim report on a recent Air India crash. He stated that the findings did not indicate any engine fault or procedural lapse.
