Bhubaneswar: Taking note of the fake drug seizures across the state, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has directed for Crime Branch investigation into the incidents.
The direction came after spurious Favipiravir Tablets were seized from a chemist shop in Cuttack’s Kanika Chhak.

Basing on a tip-off from Food & Drugs Administration, Maharashtra that spurious Favipiravir Tablets (Favimax-400), allegedly manufactured by M/s. Max Relief Health Care, Solan, Himachal Pradesh, a non-existing manufacturer, was purchased by M/s. Medilloyd Medicament Private Limited in Cuttack.
During the investigation, Drug Control Squad found that nine other drugs allegedly manufactured by the same M/s. Max Relief Health Care, Solan, Himachal Pradesh were also purchased by the firm.

It was also found that these nine drugs were supplied to different Districts. As per available information, seizures have been made in Bolangir, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Rourkela & Bhubaneswar. In order to ascertain the genuinity of these drugs and assess their quality, statutory samples of these drugs were also drawn and balance stocks seized.
Earlier, the Odisha Health & Family Welfare Department has ordered an investigation into the fake drug trade. Additional Chief Secretary (Health), Pradipta Mohapatra had stated that the Odisha State Medical Corporation Limited (OSMCL) and Police department would jointly investigate and submit the report.
