Spurious COVID-19 Drugs Seized From Cuttack Chemist Shop

Cuttack: In a huge haul, officials of the Drug Control Squad seized at least 170 boxes containing 17,000 spurious Favipiravir tablets from a chemist shop in Cuttack’s Kanika square on Friday.

They seized the spurious COVID-19 drug stocks, being manufactured for many months, and sent them to a lab for testing.

Acting on reliable inputs, the squad led by State Drugs Controller, Annada Sankar Das raided a chemist shop located at Kanika Chhak in the millennium city and seized at least 170 boxes containing 17,000 spurious Favipiravir tablets.

“The spurious medicines were seized before the stock was released in the open market in Odisha. The spurious Favipiravir medicines were procured from Uttar Pradesh by the concerned medicine store in Cuttack. We will send samples of the seized medicines for tests,” said an official.

The State Drugs Controller further informed that their further investigation is still underway and they have already informed the Madhya Pradesh government about the incident for appropriate action.
