Smart City Online Auto Drivers’ Union staged a protest outside Capital Police Station in Bhubaneswar, demanding justice over recent arrests linked to a clash between rival auto groups.

Hundreds of autos lined up in front of the police station, causing traffic congestion from Rajmahal to AG Square. Commuters faced delays as the road remained blocked for hours.

The protest erupted after police arrested members from both Smart City and Station Auto Drivers’ Unions following a violent altercation. A few days ago, a Smart City driver was allegedly assaulted by Station Union members. In retaliation, both groups clashed, leading to injuries and public disturbance.

Yesterday, police detained several individuals from both unions and produced them in court. Smart City Union claimed that innocent drivers were arrested while the actual culprits remained free. They demanded a fair investigation and immediate release of their colleagues.

Union leaders accused the police of bias and negligence. They submitted a memorandum seeking action against those responsible for the assault and wrongful arrests.

The protest remained peaceful but disrupted daily traffic. Police deployed additional personnel to manage the crowd and restore order. Senior officers assured the union that the matter would be reviewed and justice ensured.

Local residents expressed concern over repeated clashes between auto unions. Authorities urged both groups to resolve disputes legally and avoid public inconvenience.
