Aryna Sabalenka defeated Elena Rybakina 6-3, 6-3 in the Wuhan Open 2025 quarterfinals, extending her unbeaten streak at the tournament to 20 matches.
She now prepares to face Jessica Pegula in the semifinal.
Sabalenka broke Rybakina’s serve in the eighth game of the first set with a powerful forehand winner. She held serve to close the set and immediately broke again in the second, tightening her grip on the match. Despite a few late service errors, Sabalenka maintained control and improved her head-to-head record against Rybakina to 8-5.
The Belarusian star seeks her fourth consecutive Wuhan Open title, having previously won in 2018, 2019, and 2024. Her consistent performance at this venue has made her a dominant force in the tournament.
Jessica Pegula, her next opponent, earned her semifinal spot by defeating Katerina Siniakova 2-6, 6-0, 6-3. Pegula’s comeback win marked her 50th match victory of the season and strengthened her bid for the upcoming WTA Finals.
Sabalenka holds a strong record against Pegula, winning eight of their ten previous encounters, including the U.S. Open final last year. Their semifinal clash promises high intensity and strategic brilliance.
Sabalenka’s Wuhan Open campaign continues to showcase her aggressive style and mental toughness. Fans anticipate a thrilling showdown as she aims to defend her title once again.
