During the interaction, PM Modi conveyed heartfelt condolences over the recent loss of lives in Nepal and assured full support from India in helping the country navigate its current challenges. He also extended greetings to PM Karki and the people of Nepal ahead of their National Day on September 19.
Karki, Nepal’s first woman Prime Minister and former Chief Justice, assumed office after a youth-led movement forced the exit of the K.P. Sharma Oli administration. Her interim government is tasked with conducting fresh parliamentary elections within six months.
Earlier, PM Modi had publicly congratulated Karki, calling her appointment “a shining example of women empowerment.” He emphasized the deep-rooted ties between India and Nepal, built on shared history, culture, and faith.
The conversation signals India’s continued diplomatic engagement with Nepal during a sensitive political phase, reinforcing regional cooperation and democratic values.
