Renowned Odia music composer Abhijit Majumdar remains in a comatose state at AIIMS-Bhubaneswar, where he is receiving intensive care following a sudden health deterioration during Ganesh Puja celebrations on August 27.
Diagnosed with multiple comorbidities, including hypertension, hypothyroidism, and chronic liver disease, Majumdar was initially admitted to a private hospital in Cuttack before being shifted to AIIMS-Bhubaneswar on September 4. He is currently on ventilator support, though doctors report that his kidney and liver functions have stabilised.
In a show of solidarity, Odisha Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling visited the hospital and announced that the state government will bear all medical expenses.
Authorities are also considering airlifting Majumdar to AIIMS-Delhi for advanced treatment, pending consultations between the two institutes.
Majumdar’s contribution to Odia music spans decades, with his compositions deeply embedded in the cultural fabric of the state. Fans and fellow artists continue to pray for his recovery.
