The Ministry of Women and Child Development (MWCD) is making significant strides toward creating safer and more inclusive public spaces for women and children.
Recognizing the need for gender-friendly infrastructure, the ministry has issued directives to various state governments, Union Territories (UTs), and transportation ministries to establish feeding and changing rooms at public facilities.
Reports show that feeding rooms have already been installed at several airports and bus stations across Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, and others, signaling progress. Further, MWCD has advised creating additional facilities, such as sanitary pad vending machines, restrooms, yoga rooms, and creche services in workplaces and public areas.
As part of the “Palna” component under the Mission Shakti scheme, the ministry has approved 11,395 Anganwadi cum Crèches (AWCC) to provide free childcare services across 34 States and UTs. This initiative aims to empower working mothers by offering accessible daycare services while ensuring the well-being of children.
Through these initiatives, the MWCD is committed to building an inclusive and equitable environment, paving the way for women’s meaningful participation in society.
