Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s popular public transport service, Mo Bus, will soon be renamed Ama Bus, the state government announced. Alongside the rebranding, significant safety enhancements are set to be implemented to improve commuter security following recent road accidents.

According to the state’s transport minister, the upgraded fleet will be equipped with front and rear CCTV cameras to capture real-time footage of incidents. Additionally, sirens will be installed to enhance safety measures.

The decision comes in response to growing concerns over passenger safety, with authorities aiming to ensure stricter monitoring and accident prevention. The rebranded Ama Bus service will continue to provide efficient public transport while prioritizing commuter security.

Housing and Urban Development Minister, Krushna Chandra Mohapatra on Saturday informed that the public transport system will soon see a name change and ‘Mo Bus’ service will be renamed as ‘Ama Bus’.

The change is being heralded as a move towards community inclusivity, with ‘Mo’ translating to ‘My’ and ‘Ama’ to ‘Our’ in the regional language, Odia.

The introduction of ‘guardian systems’ like Advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) will also be installed. The system will monitor driver alertness, with technology in place to sound alarms and bring vehicles to a halt if drivers show signs of fatigue or fall asleep.

Additionally, breathalyser tests will now form a routine check for alcohol consumption before drivers commence their shifts.
