A tractor driver named Damu Muduli saved three lives during a sudden flash flood in Thuamal village, near Chandigiri stream under Thuamul Rampur block.
The victims—a woman and her two minor daughters—were trapped under a bridge as heavy rainfall triggered a dangerous surge in water levels.
The trio had taken shelter from the rain when the upstream flow intensified, putting them at risk of being swept away. Hearing their cries for help, Muduli, who happened to be passing by, immediately sprang into action. With the assistance of local villagers, he pulled all three to safety, narrowly avoiding a tragedy.
Muduli’s quick thinking and selfless bravery have earned widespread praise across Odisha, with many calling for official recognition of his heroic deed. The incident also highlights the growing threat of flash floods in the region and the importance of community vigilance during extreme weather events.
