A youth named Mirza Jafar from Mayabagicha was critically injured in a stabbing incident in Sunapali area in Sambalpur district on Saturday.
According to Dhanupali police, the attack occurred around 11 AM when Mirza and Abdul Salam were visiting Abdul’s aunt’s house.
While en route, they were intercepted by two youths—Md Arman and Md Islam—from Pension Para, with whom they had prior enmity. A dispute over money escalated into a violent confrontation, during which the accused stabbed Mirza in the thigh and physically assaulted both victims. The attackers fled the scene immediately after the assault.
Due to excessive bleeding, Mirza was first taken to the district headquarters hospital and later shifted to Burla hospital as his condition worsened. A written complaint has been filed at Dhanupali police station, and efforts are underway to locate the absconding accused.
This incident follows a brutal murder on August 18 in Motijharan, where a youth named Asif Khan was stabbed to death. The prime accused, Md Wasim, remains at large despite police efforts over the past 11 days. His brother, Samad, was apprehended after firing at police during an early morning raid, which resulted in a gunshot wound to his leg. Samad has since been produced in court, but Wasim continues to evade arrest.
The motive behind Asif’s murder remains unclear, and public frustration is mounting over repeated knife attacks and the police’s inability to bring all perpetrators to justice. Citizens are demanding stricter enforcement and swift action to curb the rising violence in Sambalpur.
